Govt Publishes Guidelines for HSC Admission 2016
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said that the admission process will start from May 26 and classes from July 10, 2016. The results for this year’s school leaving exam was published on May 11, 2016 with a success rate of 88.29 percent.Like in previous years, the ministry issued a guideline on May 12, 2016 (Thursday) for admission based on the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent exam results. Educational institutions will have to complete the admissions online.Students will be also able to apply by sending text messages from Teletalk numbers between May 26 and June 09, 2016. Those who have sought a review of their results will have to apply within the same deadline. Lists of eligible candidates will be published on June 16 and students will be able to enroll until June 30, 2016.
A late admission fee will be applicable to get admitted between July 10 and 20, 2016. Candidates can apply online by paying Tk. 150/-. They can choose up to ten colleges and pay Tk. 120/- for each.
The revised guideline says 89 percent of the seats at colleges in seven divisional headquarters will be open to all. Of the rest, five percent will be reserved as ‘freedom fighter quota’; three percent from students coming outside from the divisional headquarters. Another two percent has to be reserved for children of staff of education ministry and its departments, the institution itself as well as for members of the college’s managing body.
Besides, 0.5 percent seats will be reserved for children of expatriate Bangladeshis and the remaining 0.5 percent for BKSP (the state-owned sports academy) students.
Educational institutions in rural or municipal areas (Upazila towns) cannot charge more than Tk. 1,000 while the amount is Tk. 2,000 for colleges in district towns. Colleges in metropolitan areas other than Dhaka cannot charge students more than Tk. 3,000. Regularized educational institutions in Dhaka metropolitan can charge a maximum Tk. 5,000.
Partially regularized institutions can charge a maximum of Tk. 9,000 for Bangla medium and Tk. 10,000 for English medium. No educational institution can charge more than Tk. 3000 as development fee. The ministry, warning against charging additional fees, has asked to lower fees for poor, meritorious and physically challenged students.
